Stefanos Tsitsipas has notched his eighth win in a row to move into the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open after defeating Roberto Carballes Baena 7-5, 6-3.

Fresh off winning his third Monte Carlo Masters title on Sunday, the Greek is through to another quarter-final where he will face Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta next.

No.5 seed Tsitsipas scored seven aces on the Spaniard and had 11 chances to break point but only managed to do so three times.

“It’s good to be on a streak like this,” he said on court after his win.

“It tends to get tougher, the more you proceed. To maintain it is the most difficult part, so to have that number so far is good. It adds confidence to me, I really like to be on a streak like this.

“It’s one of those things that you wish happens more often as a tennis player, so definitely taking the positives out of all of this and trying to apply it to my tennis as much as I can.”

Tsitsipas has now won all eight matches he has played on clay in 2024, and he improves to 25-5 on the surface since the start of 2023.

The No.7 rank is a three-time runner-up at Barcelona, and is now one of the two highest-seeded players remaining in the tournament.

The other being Casper Rudd, the man he comprehensively defeated in Monte-Carlo, with both a chance for a rematch in another final, only one week removed from their previous hit out.
