Lunch goers at a South Melbourne venue are expected to witness first-hand the passing of Greek traditions to the younger generation.
According to organisers at the Golden Fleece Hotel, the 5 May lunch is meant to build cultural bridges, extending an invitation “to people of all backgrounds to discover the joy and community spirit of Greek Easter.”
Mother of the venue’s part owner, Mary Tassigiannakis, has led the curating of a Greek Easter lunch menu, including dishes like magiritsa, pastitsio, whole lamb spit, red boiled eggs and tsoureki.
But organisers say the heart of the celebration lies beyond the typical delicacies into the act of keeping “cultural customs alive within new generations.”
Tassigiannakis is expected to share the preparation of traditional Greek Orthodox Easter dishes with her future daughter-in-law, Beza Mickan-White and goddaughter Kathryn Theodosis.

“Easter is a special time for our family, and sharing these traditions with Beza has brought us even closer,” Tassigiannakis said.
“We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this beautiful occasion.”
Featuring both meat and vegetarian menu options, the event is designed to cater to families and individuals wishing to experience a traditional get-together without hosting at home.
Learning about the Greek cultural heritage, enjoying the spirit of Easter festivities and celebrating “the rich cultural tapestry that Greek Easter brings to our community” are also part of the menu, organisers promise.
“I love seeing my family involved at our venue on such a significant occasion within the Greek Orthodox calendar,” said Golden Fleece part owner Nic Tassigiannakis.
