President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou met with the Patriarch of Alexandria Theodore II during her visit to Alexandria on Friday.

In recognition of President’s visit and in appreciation of her commitment to fostering bilateral relations, the highest distinction of the Throne of the Patriarchate, the Grand Cross of the Apostle Mark with a star, was bestowed on her by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodore II.

Sakellaropoulou in turn commended the dedication with which Patriarch Theodore fulfills his spiritual leadership role over the African continent despite the numerous challenges he encounters.

She highlighted his role as a distinguished representative of the Greek Orthodox tradition and expressed gratitude for the Patriarchate’s efforts in fostering strong ties with Egypt.

Following the ceremony, President Sakellaropoulou was given a guided tour of an exhibition space and the library of the Patriarchate.
