A charity event organised by AHEPA Victoria’s Unit ATHENA No. 2 took place on Sunday, May 19, at the Merrimu Ballroom in Murrumbeena, helping raise over $22,000 for endometriosis research supported by Endometriosis Australia.

Around 300 women attended the event, according to Despina Sapountzis.

Notable attendees included Angeliki Falelakis, mother of Emmanuel Kakavelakis, the Greek Consul General in Melbourne, Felicia Belagia from Multicultural Centre For Women’s Health, and Monica Forlano from Endometriosis Australia.

Endometriosis is a common inflammatory disease affecting about one in seven women aged 44 to 49, according to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW).

The number of women diagnosed with endometriosis in Australia is rising, with more women being diagnosed at earlier ages.

Members of AHEPA Victoria thanked everyone who helped make the event a success, including those who chose to remain anonymous, for their support and contribution to women who suffer from endometriosis.
