Oakleigh Cannons FC, along with residents of the suburb of Oakleigh, have eagerly anticipated the start of the Jack Edwards redevelopment project.

The project, which includes the construction of modern facilities such as a safe grandstand, new changing rooms and new lighting, has officially begun and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Not only will these new facilities benefit the club and its athletes, but they will also benefit the entire suburb of Oakleigh.

The leaders of the project envision a Jack Edwards that will be used daily, serving as a safe haven for people of all ages to exercise, take leisurely walks, grab a coffee and relax with a good book.

The estimated cost for this large project is $14.7 million, with the Victorian Government contributing $4 million, the Commonwealth $2 million, the City of Monash just over $8 million, and the club contributing half a million dollars.

The mastermind behind the entire project and chairman of the Oakleigh Cannons, Kon Kavalakis, spoke with Neos Kosmos.

“I am thrilled to announce that the start of work has brought us one step closer to constructing and operating this magnificent project,” he said.

“On behalf of the board at Oakleigh Cannons, we would like to extend our public appreciation to Mrs. Clare O’Neil, the Minister, Mr. Steve Dimopoulos, and Mr. Paul Kilsaris from Monash City Council for their valuable contributions to the project. Without their assistance, we would not have been able to officially begin the work on this monumental project.”
