Greece continues to be flooded in red and white with a continuing celebration for Olympiacos’ European trophy win, the club now stamping Greece’s legacy in UEFA’s club competitions.

The “red-whites” delivered joy to all its faithful around the world as they won the UEFA Europa Conference League in Athens at AEK’s “Agia Sophia” Stadium, achieving their greatest accolade in its history.

The celebrations carried through the whole of Wednesday night in Greece, spreading all across the globe to its supporters in the diaspora, including here in Australia.

Olympiacos owner and President Evangelos Marinakis addressed the media and the raucous crowd of supporters in the aftermath of the final, expressing that the team had finally turned the fantastical dream of European silverware into a reality.

“I was certain (we would win) and that was something we had to convey to the players…We are excited and you see what is happening all over Greece, all over the world, in America, in Australia. Germany, England,” Marinakis said to Cosmote TV.

The club’s President then addressed the huge congregation of Olympiacos supporters at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, stressing the significance of this as a milestone for them and also Greece as a whole.

“I want this night to be enjoyed by our fans, our players, our great coach and everyone who gave us the strength to keep believing and make our dreams come true,” he said to the crowd.

Olympiacos captain Kostas Fortounis also shared his appreciation for the support shown throughout their entire European campaign.

“We thank all our fans who were by our side as we achieved this major feat. I want you to love this team with all your heart and I want us all to go for more European titles.”

Olympiacos’ players and staff delivered further delight for their supporters as they raised the trophy for them outside the Municipal Theatre, a sight that will live on forever for those fortunate enough to be there.

Congratulations have come from numerous individuals and groups, including the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou who said on her X account:

“Olympiacos at the top of Europe! A historic night for the Piraeus team and Greek football. Congratulations for winning the Conference League!”

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis echoed this sentiment with a social media of his own:

“A true Legend! Olympiacos wins the Conference League and makes history! A sensational night for the club itself, but also for Greek football as a whole. Congratulations!”

Appreciation has even been shown by friendly clubs of Olympiacos, Milan, Nottingham Forest (also owned by Marinakis) and APOEL, all of whom expressed congratulatory messages on their social media.

The result was made possible with striker Ayoub El Kaabi’s winning goal, and the Moroccan stressed that this was a collective achievement by everyone part of the Olympiacos family.

He then triumphantly declared to CosmoteTV in Greek: “Πάμε Ολυμπιακέ, πάμε!”

The celebrations will continue long into the near future for Olympiacos’ fans, and they can rest easy knowing they have finally brought home European silverware to Greece’s shores.
