The Greek Community of Melbourne has organised a tribute in memory of their respected colleague, educator and philologist Alexandros Giannadakis on Sunday 16 June.

A GCM associate since 2013 in the role of teacher and coordinator of the ancient Greek and adult programmes, Giannadakis passed away unexpectedly “leaving behind an unfulfilled void”, the GCM wrote in a heartfelt post.

“With the heaviest heart, the Greek Community of Melbourne farewells one of the most beloved members of our community, our dearest colleague and friend.”

Giannadakis was born in Crete and following his graduation with honours in Ancient and modern Greek language and pedagogics from the University of Crete he ventured into working as a philologist for many years in Greece.

He came to Melbourne in 2004 as a seconded teacher and worked as a lecturer at Monash University before joining the GCM.

The tribute will take place on Sunday, 16 June, 12:00 pm at St Demetrios Church, 380 High St, Windsor VIC 3181.

All students, colleagues, and community members are invited to gather and celebrate the cherished moments shared with Alexandros.
