Melbourne businessman and benefactor Andreas Andrianopoulos has been awarded the Order of the Philochrists, the highest honorary distinction of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.
For many years, Andrianopoulos has developed multilevel social action within the Greek diaspora and the wider Australian society, and has also been a constant supporter of the work of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
He was awarded by Archbishop Makarios of Australia on Monday June 10, at the end of the Archieratical Vespers held at the Holy Monastery of Panagia “Axion Esti” in Northcote.
Archbishop Makarios spoke warmly about the personality and contribution of Andrianopoulos, whom he described as a “role model”.
“For many years he has been offering to the Church and his fellow man, without ever asking for anything in return,” he said.
“With a lot of humility, prudence, faith and hope in God, he helps whenever he can and as much as he can, and sometimes more than he can. That’s why we owe you a big thank you.”
