Over this past weekend Pipeworks Market in Thomastown, Melbourne, celebrated all things Greek at their Greek festival.

From Cypriot-Greek and Greek cuisine, music, dance and stalls set up selling Greek goods, there was a taste of everything.

Saturday and Sunday DJ George Giannakos played Greek tunes in between the showcases and performances.

Sunday saw another live band performance from Athina Band while dance groups Pegasus Dance Academy, Florina Aristotelis Dance Group, the Greek Community of Melbourne and the Pontian Association of Whittlesea ‘Panagia Soumela’.

A Greek fitness session by Opacsize Fitness was held while Nestoras College also gave a music performance.

Neos Kosmos spoke to a few people at the market to get their thoughts.

“I came today (Sunday) because I heard there was going to be Pontiaka and Florina music and dancing,” said Kathy.

“I grew up listening to that music from my parents, so seeing the dance groups made me very proud and happy.”

Eleni, said she saw the event on social media and thought it would be good to bring the kids.

“The kids are having fun, so that’s what matters,” she said.

“They’re up on the jumping castle slide and got excited seeing the rides and games outside.”

While Sunday had lots of entertainment from the the dance and music groups, Saturday was a bit more quiet on that front. But the food seemed to be drawing everyone in. Gyros, calamari, souvla, sheftalies and other Cypriot dishes, loukoumades and more.
