Georgia Nikolaidou’s tenure as the Education Coordinator for Australia-New Zealand has concluded.
Replacing her is Maria Triantafyllou, who currently serves in Australia and has been referred to by Nikolaidou as “excellent.”
Appointed in 2016, Nikolaidou confirmed the news to Neos Kosmos when asked after the he Ministry of Education’s announcement.
“By decision of the Minister of Education, the secondment of Deputy Education Coordinators abroad is extended from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, or until the new Education Coordinators assume their duties as per the current process. Educators are appointed as Deputy Education Coordinators abroad from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, or until the new Education Coordinators assume their duties as per the current process,” the announcement said.
It’s noteworthy that there were once over 80 seconded educators from Greece serving in Australia. Today, this number has been reduced to nine due to the high cost of living in Australia and the very low additional allowance provided by Greece. As a result, it is not financially viable for Greek educators to work in Australia on secondment.
