In a heartbreaking incident, a 13-year-old girl lost her life after being struck by lightning during a sudden summer rainstorm in northern Greece.
The young girl, who was swimming with her parents at Faros beach near Poseidi in Halkidiki, was caught in the unexpected storm, a popular area southeast of Thessaloniki known for attracting both Greek and foreign visitors.
Kassandreia Mayor Anastasia Halkia reported that the family had exited the sea as the rain began, but the weather quickly took a turn for the worse.
“There was a lot of lightning,” Halkia stated. “It’s the kind of summer storm that usually doesn’t cause any trouble.”
Despite efforts to seek safety, the girl was struck by lightning and rushed to a hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead. Her parents remained unharmed.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of summer storms and the importance of staying vigilant in changing weather conditions.
