Melbourne Victory have elevated Academy graduate Alex Menelaou to the A-League Men’s squad for the 2024/25 season.

Menelaou is captain of the Victorian Premier League 1 (VPL1) side, and has played a key part in their push towards promotion to the Victorian top tier.

The young Greek Italian is an attacking midfielder who has been part of Victory’s Academy for the past three seasons.

“Everything I do for the club is a privilege so I look forward to doing the best I possibly can to help the team out,” he told Neos Kosmos.

“I can’t wait to get started and progress not only as a footballer but as a person. I’ll try my hardest to display the best version of myself on and off the pitch.”

Menelaou spent his junior career at Northcote City and FC Bulleen Lions before joining Melbourne City ahead of the 2022 season.

Since then he has made 54 league appearances and scored seven times.

He made his debut for the A-League team two years ago in a friendly against Manchester United at the MCG, which he described as a “surreal experience” playing his first game against an English Premier League giant.
