Stefanos and Petros Tsitsipas have edged fourth seed duo Nicolas Barrientos and Luke Johnson 4-6, 6-4, 14-12, winning the final three points of the match tie-break to claim the upset win.
The Greek brothers won two of the three break points and dominated on first serve with a 72 percent win rate.
After being broken three times in the opening set, they saved all four break points against them in set two.
It’s a return to a court that Stefanos Tsitsipas loves to play on, where he was a standout performer in his first pitstop on the European clay earlier this year.
He won his third title in Monte Carlo and advanced to the quarterfinals or better in three more tournaments on the surface.
On clay is where the 25-year-old’s aggressive baseline game shines the most, and it is why he is ranked first seed for this Swiss Open campaign.
Tsitsipas will play Hamad Medjedovic first up in the Round of 16 at 11pm today AEST.
