Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after defeating Sebastian Baez 7-5, 6-1.
The No 12 stormed home in the second set to win in two sets, just like in his second-round match against Dan Evans and has only lost one set so far (in the first round).
Tsitsipas finished the match with 61 per cent passing first serve, winning 89 per cent of the points (32/36) and 26 per cent in the second (6/23).
He took advantage of five of seven break opportunities, scoring 11 winners, while also having 19 unforced errors.
The top ranked Greek player had his serve broken early on by the Argentinian to be down 0-2, but he answered back immediately to level the score 2-2.
He went on to win the set 7-5 in four straight games and dominated the second set to win 6-1.
The 25-year-old will next face Novak Djokovic who he is 2-11 against, having lost the last 10 matches to the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
However it has been two years since they last met on clay, where Tsitsipas is most comfortable, having a good record on the surface the last few years.
He has caused the former No 1 trouble on clay in the past and has enjoyed a consistent season this year so far while Djokovic isn’t at 100 per cent.
The two are set to play Friday 3am AEST for a place in the final four.
