Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is now a Motherwell player, joining the Scottish Premiership side from Newcastle Jets on a three-year deal.

The Greek Australian joins the Well after an undisclosed transfer fee was agreed between the clubs and subject to an international clearance.

He also had an option for a fourth season and will hope to consolidate his spot in the national team.

Stamatelopoulos broke Newcastle’s record for most goals in a season with 17 last term as he also earned his international debut with the Subway Socceroos against Palestine in June.

This is the second time the 25-year-old has embarked on a move abroad following a two-year spell in Greece with A. E. Rodos and PAS Giannina F.C before returning to the A-League ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

“It’s great to finally say I’m a Motherwell player,” Stameatelopoulos said via the club’s website.

“I was at the game on Sunday and got a real feel for the place. Seeing all the fans together and the boys playing, I just wanted to get out there.

“It’s been a long journey to get here but I can now focus on making an impact. I’m here to score goals, that’s my job. I will do my best to fulfil that.

“The boys have been brilliant and it’s been great meeting all the staff. I can’t wait to see what’s in store ahead.”

The Jets allowed their star player to pursue the overseas opportunity to “further increase his chances of selection for the Socceroos”.
