After arriving in Greece a year ago, young Greek Australian George Tsamouras was able to overcome all obstacles, bureaucratic and personal, finding difficulty in living away from home, to win a place in the U19s side of ASA Karditsa.

Last year he was invited to train for the first-grade men’s team while playing for the U19s.

The 17-year-old has now been invited to participate in the first team’s pre-season preparation in the hope of impressing new coach Timotheos Kavakas for a place in the first-grade men’s team.

Tsamouras will be working hard to earn a spot on the team in what is the club’s 120th year since their inception in 1904.

Before attracting the interest of Greek clubs, Tsamouras first played for Newcastle Olympic FC, which he joined at age six.

He later rejoined at age 13, to help the team win the U14s and U15s NNSW NPL Premierships.

He also had a run with Newcastle Olympic FC earned him the team’s U15s Player’s Player of the Year. This was also his pathway to join the Newcastle Jets Academy in 2022.

There, Tsamouras maintained the same pace, helping the U16s Newcastle Jets secure the Premiership in 2022, and the U20s win the FNSW League Two Men’s Premiership for 2023.
