The Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia (GOCSA) recognised the employees of its Ridleyton Greek Home for the Aged (RGHA) as the country celebrated Aged Care Employee Day (ACED) for the sixth year last Wednesday. This annual event honours the over 370,000 people who care for and support around 1.5 million older Australians receiving aged care services.
With over 4.2 million Australians currently aged 65 or older and the number of Australians over 85 set to double by 2042, the important role played by aged care workers will only increase in the years to come.
GOCSA praised its aged care facility staff, including nurses, personal care workers, chefs, cleaners, gardeners, laundry staff, lifestyle coordinators, and administration staff. They provide not only medical and physical care but also emotional support and companionship.

Con Dalagiorgos, GOCSA General Manager Community and Corporate Services, expressed appreciation, saying, “Aged care employees are a vital part of our community, ensuring our elderly live their twilight years with dignity, care, and respect. We thank them for their invaluable contributions.”
Bill Papazafiropoulos, Lifestyle Coordinator at RGHA, values the impact on elderly community members.
“Caring for the elderly is a way to honour those who have shaped our lives. Enhancing residents’ quality of life is incredibly motivating,” he said.
Thuy Phan, RGHA Director of Clinical Services, emphasised the day’s significance, calling it “a day of recognition, appreciation, and reflection.”
Phan expressed deep gratitude for the employees’ dedication and hard work.
