The “Trifylli” has started the new season immediately on the back foot after a shock upset at the hands of Asteras Tripolis.
Panathinaikos fell 0-1 to the Arcadians at the Olympic Stadium (their home ground for this term) on Monday morning (AEST) to mark a terrible start to their league campaign.
Asteras Tripolis found their winner early into the second half after Greens midfielder Zeca brought down winger Crespi just outside the box, a foul which earned him a red card (51′).
Crespi made Zeca pay for his mistake as he scored the subsequent free kick, giving the visitors the advantage which they managed to hang onto for the rest of the contest.
It is Panathinaikos’ first loss in the opening round of a league season since 2020/21 when they also lost 1-0 to Asteras Tripolis.

AEK kicked off their league campaign in supreme fashion as they beat them 4-0 at “Agia Sophia” Stadium, making up for their disappointing European exit.
Enosi opened the scoring through a lovely headed finish into the bottom right by striker Levi Garcia (11′), with left back Stavros Pilios doubling their lead minutes later with a composed shot into the same corner (14′).
Forward Steven Zuber then wrapped up the result with a late goal (82′).
Atromitos fought their way to a 1-1 draw in their home clash with Aris to give themselves a positive start to the new season.
The Thessaloniki club went ahead in the 66th minute, thanks to an own goal from centre half Franz Brorsson, though the lead was short-lived as winger Amr Warda soon levelled it up when he scored from the penalty spot (74′).
Levadiakos and Kallithea played out a 0-0 stalemate to each earn their first points back in the top flight of Greek football.
PAOK and Olympiacos each grabbed victories in their opening games on Sunday morning, with the Thessaloniki giants navigating a Panserraikos side that gave them some trouble.
The “black-whites” downed the Serres-based club 3-2 at “Toumba” ground, thanks in large part to Stefan Schwab’s prowess form the penalty spot.
Panserraikos struck first when striker Jefte Betancor converted a spot-kick in the 31st minute, though it was cancelled out almost immediately by Schwab’s own penalty (35′).
PAOK pulled in front right before the break via midfielder Magomed Ozdoev (45+3′), but the travellers were able to equalise shortly after half time through a counter-attack that was finished by winger Juan Salazar (49′).

The Thessaloniki outfit earned themselves another penalty which Schwab finished right on the hour mark, and they managed to preserve their lead this time to ensure the win.
Olympiacos sealed a 0-2 away triumph over a Volos side that played close to one hour with only ten players.
The Piraeus giants went ahead via a grounded strike into the bottom left from right back Rodinei (13′), and the game became easier for them when midfielder Lucas Villafanez was sent off in the 32nd minute after earning his second yellow just a few minutes after receiving his first.
Winger Georgios Masouras secured the points for the “red-whites’ soon after his entry as a sub, finishing fellow attacker Gelson Martins’ cross on the volley with a bouncing effort that deflected off defender Pavlos Correa into the back of the net (73′).
Panetolikos hosts Lamia in the remaining fixture of the round on Tuesday morning.
