An operation to save a group of migrants on Tilos, including a 50-day-old infant, took place on Sunday as the island pooled its resources to rescue the trapped individuals.

The group consisted of dozens of migrants who had been trapped in a mountainous area of Tilos.

Maria Kamma, the mayor of Tilos, posted a video on social media focusing on the specific rescue of an infant among the group which went viral.

“A 50-day-old refugee baby, stranded on the mountain for three days, whose parents were making its milk with seawater,” Kamma stated.

The trapped individuals were saved through a helicopter operation, while the baby was rescued by sea.

The mayor elaborated that the migrants were beaten by Turkish traffickers, among them being children and pregnant woman.

“This is the scene of despair that the island’s society has been facing in recent months and the external help? Minimal,” Kamma stated.

The mayor shared her appreciation to her fellow citizens and the local authorities, who did everything in their abilities to save the migrants.
