The Mytilenian Brotherhood of Sydney and NSW is set to host their annual Sardella Day in a grand celebration of the fish synonymous with the island of Lesvos.
The event will be held at the Mytilenian House in Canterbury from 12.30pm on Sunday 22 September, continuing its proud annual tradition of recognising sardella (sardines) which are famously fished in the Gulfs of Gera and Kalloni.
The event will see the fish cooked in is three most popular ways (BBQ, fried and oven-baked) to provide a comprehensive taste of it for all attendees, with other traditional mezethakia also to be prepared.
Along with the food, the event will feature plenty of entertainment with live music to be performed by Ioannis Keligiannis, Thanasis Pylarinos, and Nikos Filippatos.
There will also be a dance performance by the Sydney Greek Dancing School group, contributing to the celebratory atmosphere of the event.
The Sydney event follows in the spirit of similar celebrations held in Lesvos, with festivals lasting days in honour of the sardines that have cultivated a strong association with Lesvos.
