In the tussle over the leadership of PASOK-KINAL, the current leader Nikos Androulakis emerged as the frontrunner, with an eight-point lead over his closest rival, Haris Doukas. Both candidates will face off in the second round of voting.

With 100 per cent of the votes counted, totaling 302,822, the final results were as follows:

Nikos Androulakis: 29.64 per cent (89,200 votes)

Haris Doukas: 21.41 per cent (64,490 votes)

Pavlos Geroulanos: 21.12 per cent (63,632 votes)

Anna Diamantopoulou: 19.52 per cent (58,899 votes)

Michalis Katrinis: 6.03 per cent (18,163 votes)

Nadia Giannakopoulou: 2.29 per cent (6,890 votes)

Australia casts votes for Androulakis and Geroulanos

In the PASOK leadership race, voters in Sydney and Melbourne have cast their ballots for Nikos Androulakis and Pavlos Geroulanos as their top choices.

In Melbourne, Pavlos Geroulanos secured a comfortable lead, receiving 21 votes out of the 35 ballots cast by Greek expatriates. Nikos Androulakis followed in second place with 6 votes, while the rest of the candidates received the following: Nadia Giannakopoulou (3), Anna Diamantopoulou (2), Haris Doukas (1), and Michalis Katrinis (1). There was also one invalid vote. Kostas Karamarkos and Angelos Charitou oversaw the voting process in Melbourne.

In Sydney, where a larger number of voters participated (53), Nikos Androulakis emerged as the frontrunner with 19 votes. He was followed by Anna Diamantopoulou with 17 votes, Haris Doukas (9), Michalis Katrinis (6), Pavlos Geroulanos (2), and Nadia Giannakopoulou (0).

Androulakis: A great day for democracy

Following the results, Androulakis said, “Today is a great day for the democratic movement,” as he arrived at the party’s headquarters on Charilaou Trikoupi Street. He thanked the “hundreds of thousands of citizens” who participated in the party’s elections.

Androulakis stressed that the whole campaign was characterised by “ethics, and seriousness.”

“I want to thank everyone who honoured me with today’s victory. Seven days remain until next Sunday, and I am confident that PASOK will emerge even more united, stronger, and prouder,” he concluded.

Doukas: A call for change in PASOK leadership

Haris Doukas, who came in second, said “the message from the ballot box is very clear – 70 per cent of voters want a change in leadership.”

Doukas called on PASOK members to rally for a transformative shift. “Let’s change PASOK to change the country,” he said.

He thanked the voters for their turnout, describing the day as a significant one for the democratic movement.

Geroulanos: The fight is not over

Pavlos Geroulanos, in third position, acknowledged the results and congratulated Androulakis and Doukas on advancing to the second round. He thanked to the 300,000 party faithful who participated, and those who supported his candidacy.

Geroulanos said that his voters made their decision independently and did not expect him to direct their future voting choices.

“The battle is still open,” he said, adding that he believes his supporters will continue to exercise their judgment freely.

Diamantopoulou: United for a stronger PASOK

Anna Diamantopoulou, at fourth position, said that the next phase for PASOK would be one of unity and collaboration.

“The next day will see us united, working together for a stronger PASOK,” she stated, adding that the day marks a new beginning for the party.

She thanked her supporters, including volunteers and friends who backed her candidacy across Greece.

Katrinis: Citizens will decide freely

Michalis Katrinis, garnered 6.03 per cent of the votes, expressed his appreciation for the strong voter turnout, noting that more than 300,000 citizens participated in the elections.

He congratulated Androulakis and Doukas and refrained from endorsing either candidate for the second round, stating, “The citizens will decide freely and independently who will lead the party.”

Giannakopoulou: A victory for PASOK

Nadia Giannakopoulou, who received 2.29 per cent of the vote, described the day as a victory for PASOK, praising the 300,000 members and friends who participated in the election. She stressed the importance of unity within the party and committed to staying at the forefront of efforts to renew and strengthen PASOK.

She assured her supporters that their efforts had borne fruit and expressed hope for the party’s continued success in the days ahead.
