Leading PWII tennis player Andriana Petrakis won her second singles title at the Australian Tennis Championships last week, defeating top ranked Kelly Wren 6-3, 6-4.

Petrakis, who ranks second amongst women with intellectual impairment, also defeated Wren to win her first singles title last year.

“I felt very happy, proud, grateful, privileged and honoured of myself,” she told Neos Kosmos.

Earlier this year the young Greek Australian found herself ranked No.1 but Wren took back the position. Now that she has defeated the veteran, Petrakis may find her way back to the top.

Last month she competed at the World Tennis Championships in Annecy, France.

There she won two silver medals, for the teams’ event and another in doubles. She also took home a bronze medal for mixed doubles.

Petrakis found joy outside the sport too.

“My favourite highlights were a boat cruise for seeing historic sites around Annecy, meeting new people, team bonding and competed my best level of tennis. I had fun,” she said.

After the event she was visited Athens for the first time for a holiday with her mum and some relatives which she called “the best experience of my life”.
