Thousands gathered at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro) for a memorial concert honouring the victims of the tragic train collision in Tempi. The crowd, united in voice and spirit, sang “Andromeda,” hoping their tribute would reach the heavens.

The concert, held on Friday, commemorated the 57 lives lost in the Tempi train disaster. Organised by the association of the victims’ families, led by Maria Karystianou, the event featured performances by renowned artists Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Tania Tsanaklidou, Sokratis Malamas, Foivos Delivorias, and the band Koinoi Thnitoi, all of whom performed without compensation.

The emotional voices of thousands echoed into the night sky, singing as one in memory of the victims of the Tempi train tragedy. The song “Andromeda” by Thanasis Papakonstantinou, often dedicated to loved ones no longer with us, became an anthem, with the audience hoping their voices would reach the constellation after which this musical masterpiece is named.

The song’s themes, drawn from the Andromeda constellation and the mythical figure, celebrate life and passion—a passion that transcends existence, continuing even beyond death, as even the earth cannot contain it. The closing verses of “Andromeda” are haunting, resonating deeply within the soul:

“Aide, here close by, two meters deep,
Aide, they say they imprison passion,
Aide, they throw dirt and shower with flowers,
Aide, and they think, they think they’ve settled it all.”
