PRONIA, is bringing cinema to the elderly members of Melbourne’s Greek-Australian community with exclusive morning screenings.
Recognising that evening cinema trips can be a challenge for seniors, PRONIA that is also a major sponsor of the 29th Greek Film Festival arranged two special film sessions tailored to older audiences, carers, and friends of PRONIA.
The first screening took place at COMO Cinema in South Yarra, where over 160 attendees enjoyed the Greek comedy ‘Hear Who’s Talking’, a new release that had recently premiered at the festival.
For many seniors, this modern depiction of life in Greece sparked fond memories of Melbourne’s Greek cinema culture in the 1960s and ’70s.

During that era, families would gather to watch films starring iconic actors like Tzeni Karezi and Aliki Vougiouklaki, making cinema outings a beloved tradition in the Greek-Australian community.
The festival now showcases films that explore the challenges and complexities of modern Greece, including the country’s economic struggles and the experience of maintaining Greek identity in diasporas.
PRONIA’s screenings this year provide seniors with an opportunity to reconnect with their roots through contemporary Greek cinema while strengthening community bonds.
The next private screening will be held on Thursday, October 24, at Pentridge Cinemas in Coburg.
Limited seats are still available, and those interested can reserve their spot by contacting PRONIA at (03) 9388 9998.
