Stefanos Tsitsipas won his first match at the Swiss Indoors but it was no easy task for the top ranked Greek, defeating Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-6(4).
This was the first meeting between the pair, with Tsitsipas prevailing in 2 hours and 34 minutes to keep his slim hopes of reaching the ATP Finals alive.
Tsitsipas had the Argentine on break point on 12 occasions, only to break him the three times however.
The world no 11 took the first set comfortably but Cerundolo, ranked 30, was not to be taken lightly taking the second in a closely fought affair.
Tsitsipas was on the brink of defeat with Cerundolo about to close out the match but the 26-year-old responded with another break to then prevail in the tiebreaker.
His next opponent in Basel will be Botic Van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands.
