OXI Day is set to be recognised all across NSW with several initiatives by various organisations as they honour the historical date in what also represents 80 years since the end of the Axis occupation in mainland Greece.

Numerous events have been organised for this coming weekend in recognition of the 84th anniversary of OXI Day, the first of which will commence on Saturday 26 October at 11am with a wreath laying ceremony at organised by Inner West Council.

The service will be held in the forecourt of Marrickville Town Hall in front of the Winged Victory memorial.

It is expected that there will be a doxology the following morning (Sunday 27 October) at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of our Lady in Redfern, as organised by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia.

A wreath laying ceremony will follow the service and will take place at the memorial located outside the church.

In attendance will be delegations from the orthodox colleges that operate in Sydney along with other dignitaries.

The Greek Orthodox Community of NSW will hold a Reception/Cocktail Party on the day itself (Monday 28 October) at the Greek Community Club in Lakemba, with the event commencing at 7pm.

AHEPA NSW will also host an event to mark the occasion on Wednesday 30 October from 7.30pm at the AHEPA NSW Hall in Rockdale.

The Consulate General of Greece in Sydney, in collaboration with the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens (AAIA), is set to hold a seminar next month on 27 November that is also in line with the commemorative events for OXI Day.
