The Bayswater community is grieving the tragic loss of Vicky Apostolopoulos, a mother of two known for making her family the centre of her life, who was fatally stabbed at her home on Saturday morning.
Known for her warmth and generosity, Apostolopoulos, 51, was described by friends as someone who lit up every room and was always eager to help others.
“She was just so wholesome and honest, always positive,” a friend told The Age. “Her door was always open—she’d invite you in, make you something to eat, and talk with you.”
Police allege her neighbour, 47-year-old Milorad Zaric, is responsible for the fatal attack, which occurred in the presence of Apostolopoulos’ two teenage sons and Zaric’s 17-year-old son, who sustained minor injuries.
“She loved her kids more than love itself,” a family friend said. “Her Christmas trees were beautiful, and she made a big fuss for birthdays. She was always present for her kids, nephews, and everyone she loved. You just can’t imagine how this could happen to such a normal family.”
Meanwhile, a former colleague at Australia Post described her as an “absolutely beautiful lady” who left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Authorities stated the incident is not being treated as family violence. Senior Sergeant Chris Ellway explained that the alleged offender went to the victim’s house, and after she opened the door, she was assaulted.
Zaric has been charged with murder and was remanded in custody following a court appearance on Sunday. He is scheduled to face court again in February.
