Peter Diakrousis, president of the Cephalonian Society of Victoria ‘O Kefalos’, has announced his resignation, citing internal tensions within the organisation.
Vice President Anthea Skouris and Secretary Nitsa Koresis have also stepped down, with Koresis having resigned several months ago.
The announcement comes amid reports of discord among the society’s members, which escalated in the lead-up to the general assembly scheduled for Sunday at 2pm in Melbourne.
In a letter addressed to members, Diakrousis expressed his decision to step down immediately, stating that while he had enjoyed moments of his tenure, ongoing conflicts with “toxic members” prompted his resignation.
Diakrousis specifically referenced a group of members who he alleges “broke into the club” in July, contributing to a “lots of stress” and a “toxic environment”.
“I believe this decision will allow us all to move forward in a positive way,” he wrote in the letter, adding, “I wish the club continued success.”
Skouris also resigned her post as vice president, aligning with Diakrousis in the hope that their departure would pave the way for improved relations within the society.
The Cephalonian Society’s general assembly is expected to address the leadership vacancies and discuss the club’s path forward.
Neos Kosmos will provide updates following the assembly’s conclusion.
