The Federation of Greek Elderly Citizen Clubs of Melb & Vic hosted a luncheon last Wednesday in honour of Yiannis Chryssoulakis, former Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand.
The reception welcomed notable attendees, including Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne, Archimandrite Father Irinaios, Reverend Father Stavros, Tony Tsourdalakis, President of the Association of Greek Communities and Parishes of Victoria and Spyros Alatsas, General Manager of the Greek Media Group, as well as members of the Federation’s Board of Directors.
In his speech, Federation President Yiannis Kostoulias greeted attendees and reflected on the organisation’s 40-year history of supporting its members, particularly in areas such as pension rights. He highlighted the Federation’s proactive engagement with local authorities, praising Chryssoulakis for recognising the vibrant presence of senior Greek Australians during his tenure.
Kostoulias presented Chryssoulakis with commemorative gifts as a token of appreciation.
Responding, Chryssoulakis commended the Federation’s invaluable work and reaffirmed his ongoing support. He acknowledged his familiarity with the Federation’s activities through President Kostoulias and emphasised his willingness to assist whenever needed.
Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude for the Federation’s contributions and commending President Kostoulias for his dedication. He presented the Federation with several commemorative gifts.
The Federation extended its thanks to all attendees and wished everyone a joyful holiday season and a prosperous New Year in 2025.
