Greek international Kostas Tsimikas secured a major milestone this past weekend with his second half substitution against West Ham notching his 100th appearance for Liverpool.

The former Olympiacos defender has served primarily as a backup since joining the Reds in 2020, stepping in mostly when Andrew Robertson has required rest or been injured.

While his first season only saw him get on the field seven times, he has since featured more regularly with 26, 28 and 25 appearances in the last three campaigns and he has been part of squads that have won an FA Cup and two Carabao Cups.

He came into the 2024/25 season needing 14 games to reach 100 and he achieved that in Liverpool’s 0-5 away drubbing of West Ham when he came on for Robertson in the 74th minute.

Tsimikas spoke to Liverpoolfc.com after the match on achieving that milestone, saying “it means everything”.

“It was a dream when I was a young kid to play in a big team,” the Greek defender said.

“When I came here, I didn’t realise I could reach these numbers but I’m really glad. I’m more than glad, to be honest. I’m blessed from God because he gave me the power and no injuries, to achieve this number.”

Tsimikas has been embraced by his team and its passionate fanbase since joining them, with his nickname of the “Greek Scouser” demonstrating that perfectly.

Liverpool is currently the firm favourites to win the Premier League, which would be their first five years and Tsimikas’ first since joining the team.

The defender stated he is glad to be at the club and believes they are capable of great success if they can maintain their level of performances.

“We have a long journey until the end of the league and we have to see game by game, just take the three points and to win as many games as possible,” he said.

“I think this team can win everything, so every competition ahead is clear for us: we have to win every single game we have ahead and [try] to win every competition.”
