In the lead up to the reunion of Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios at the Australian Open, which was in doubt due to Kokkinakis’s injury, a mural was put up in Melbourne’s Hosier Lane.

Yitonia, bespoke network and project facilitator, collaborated with graphic designer 3032 FC to bring the work to life.

It depicts the two tennis players with the doubles trophy they won at the Australian Open in 2022.

“We met John, who’s behind 3032 FC, an amazing illustrator,” Dean Kotsianis from Yitonia said.

“We proposed to him that we could work together to scale some of the stuff he does locally, in a language and a style that Melbourne knows, through street art.”

John has collaborated with Ipswich Town FC and Hibernian FC in the UK, Belgium’s biggest football club RSC Anderlecht, A-League team Western United, AFL club Essendon FC and the Matildas.

“We thought to celebrate the tennis, why not use some of its favourite personalities or most interesting personalities,” Kotsianis said.

“There’s a couple of artworks that live next to them that are also tennis inspired, so it’s got a really nice sort of feel Hosier Lane in the city at this point in time.”

He also shared that they’re going do more work with John, to do with that same image.

“We’ll just say that we might bring it to life. We might be animating that into a short little clip.”
