The Greek Community Cup continued to captivate football fans, as Malvern edged Keon Park in a 3–2 nail-biter and Oakleigh Cannons secured a clinical 2–0 victory over South Springvale, advancing to the Semi-Finals. The tournament, hosted by the Greek Community of Melbourne, has once again highlighted the passion, skill, and community spirit at the heart of the competition.
In a match full of twists and turns, Malvern’s young squad, bolstered by several promoted Under-17 players, showcased resilience and determination to secure a narrow victory over Keon Park.
Keon Park started on the front foot, taking an early lead and coming close to doubling it as Malvern struggled to break through a well-organised defence.
However, Malvern found an equalizer after a period of sustained pressure. Keon Park responded quickly, regaining the lead just before halftime to go into the break 2–1 up.
The second half saw Malvern step up their intensity, quickly leveling the score with a sharp finish. The game remained fiercely contested until Malvern netted the decisive goal, sealing a well-earned win. While Malvern’s youthful energy impressed, Keon Park left the field with their heads high after a spirited performance.
In the day’s other fixture, Oakleigh Cannons delivered a composed and professional display to overcome tournament hosts South Springvale 2–0, booking their place in the Semi-Finals.
South Springvale started brightly, creating early chances and applying pressure on Oakleigh’s backline.
However, Oakleigh’s experience shone through, with Marco slotting home a composed finish to give his side the lead. A second goal before halftime gave Oakleigh control of the match, allowing them to dictate the pace in the second half.
Despite South Springvale’s spirited efforts to mount a comeback, Oakleigh’s solid defence held firm. The Cannons came close to extending their lead with a shot that struck the crossbar, but the 2–0 scoreline proved enough to secure victory.
