In 1988, dance instructor Sotiris Sotiriou founded the “Pegasus” Dance Academy with the aim of preserving and disseminating Greek traditional dances dating back over 2,500 years. His vision centered on maintaining the authenticity of these dances without simplifications or modernisations.

Constantly in touch with the International Dance Organisation in Greece, Sotiriou attended numerous Greek Dance conferences in Greece. In 1997, he brought one of the most renowned Greek dance instructors to Melbourne, who delivered a lecture on Greek dance.

“There are more than 200 different types of Greek dances, varying from one region to another. The experienced dance instructors at the Pegasus Dance Academy are knowledgeable about these variations and teach each dance according to the region. Our classes are strictly limited to 20 students and cater to children aged 5 and adults as long as they can move their feet,” says Sotiriou. Private lessons are also available upon arrangement with the academy.

“Our academy participates in events and festivals, showcasing student groups adorned in traditional costumes. At the end of the year, we hold an awards ceremony for our students, serving as an incentive for them to continue,” concludes Sotiriou.
