The Greek Australian Film Society is starting the new year with a bang, announcing three events for its members – a Short Film-a-Month Challenge, the return of ‘Oi Tainies Mas’, and the launch of the GAFS Monthly Writers Room.

The group is getting back into the thick of things for 2025 as it looks to delight its members with numerous initiatives, the first of which being their Short Film-a-Month Challenge which has already commenced.

The challenge involves any and all members creating and submitting a short film anywhere between 90 seconds and ten minutes to the group via their email address (info@gafsinc.org).

The Society explained the films can be shot on any device and should reflect one or more of the following creative values: filotimo, agapi, leventia, elpis, filoxenia, and the like.

Selected films submitted will be showcase at a special GAFS screening towards the end of the year.

The group is also preparing for the return of ‘Oi Tainies Mas’ which comes next Tuesday (11 February) at 7.30pm on Zoom.

The event will delve deep into Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Dogtooth” as participants engage in great discussion on the groundbreaking Greek film.

The Society will launch later that week its Monthly Writers Room at the Greek Community Centre on Saturday 17 February, 7-9.30pm.

The initiative will offer a creative space for GAFS members to pitch, workshop, and refine scripts while networking and collaborating with one another.

The Society revealed they will also start work on their first official script(s) heading into pre-production.

The group stated that those interested must send an email to the aforementioned address to reserve a spot in the writers room.
