The Union of Greeks from Egypt and the Middle East (EEAMA) is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a laugh-out-loud theatrical production, ‘O Kitsos kai to Soi Tou’ (Kitsos and His Clan), set to take the stage at South Oakleigh’s theatre.

Premiering on Saturday, March 1, this sharp-witted satire delves into a family’s multi-generational financial misfortunes. With 14 talented actors from Melbourne’s Greek community, both veterans and fresh faces, the play promises an evening of non-stop entertainment.

At the heart of the story is Kitsos Vardoulas, drowning in debt—but not by choice. He claims a family curse compels him to borrow and never repay, a fate that has haunted the Vardoulas lineage for generations. From a village birth to a city funeral and even the prime minister’s office, the play traces the family’s misfortunes with scandal, inheritance battles, and plenty of money.

Directed by Haris Konstantinidis, this comedy takes audiences on a rollercoaster ride from happiness to despair, bankruptcy to recovery, and ruin to triumph, capturing the resilience of a people who face fate with humor and determination.

Performances run every weekend from March 1 to March 23, with Saturday shows at 6.30pm and Sunday shows at 4.30pm.
