Students, teachers and volunteers of the AHEPA Greek School all combined in celebration for Carnival and Clean Monday, preparing with joy for the pre-Lent period in anticipation for Easter.

All the members of the school celebrated this past Monday, firstly arriving to school in colourful costumes, masks and fancy hats, disguised as a list of characters like princesses, witches, football players, ballerinas, clowns, superheroes and more.

The youngsters got into a festive mood, throwing streamers, listening to Greek children’s carnival songs, and playing their favourite group games, such as: musical statues, egg races, ball in the tunnel, pull the rope and musical paws.

The celebration ended with a big dance to the rhythm of our well-known Yanka before everyone tasted the rich Lenten delicacies that were offered by their School Committee.

The school played its part in celebrating Carnival and Clean Monday, the precursors for the Lent period right before Easter.

In anticipation of the event, the teachers had organised various activities in the classroom the week before to help the children better understand the spirit of Carnival and Lent.

“We believe that this joyful celebration gives the children another opportunity to get to know each other, to collaborate and to spend a pleasant afternoon,” the school’s Principal Stella Lambrou said in their media release on the event.
