Thanasi Kokkinakis has shared an injury update, revealing he has undergone an operation.
The 28-year-old took to social media to share he’s having surgery and to thank his fans.
“Been struggling for a little while with this… Probably my toughest challenge to date. I’ve been trying to find the answers to an ongoing Pec injury that I haven’t been able to fix. Let’s see how this goes.🤞🏼,” his Instagram post read.
“Thank you for all your ongoing support❤️.”
Kokkinakis also shared a video showing the moments before his operation, with family wishing him well, both in English and Greek.
Following his second-round loss at the Australian Open over a month ago, Kokkinakis described his ongoing pectoral muscle issues as “physical and mental torture”.
He was just one service game away from making the third round at Melbourne Park for the first time, but 15th seed Jack Draper rallied to win that night.
The Greek Australian was struggling physically all night, later revealing he wouldn’t have been able to play his next match even if he had made it through.
He also said he had taken a “million painkillers” to battle it out.
