Hundreds of Greek Australians gathered outside the Greek Consulate in Melbourne on Friday, demanding accountability and transparency for the Tempi train disaster. The demonstration, held on the second anniversary of the tragedy, was part of a global movement calling for justice and systemic reforms to prevent such disasters from happening again.

Meanwhile, Greece is coming to national stoppage today as hundreds of thousands of protesters are gathering to march for the victims, their families, demanding change.

Victorian Socialists member Dimitris Tafidis addressed the crowd in both Greek and English, recounting the events of the tragic collision and stressing the need for those responsible to be held accountable.

“The Greek diaspora stands united in demanding truth and justice. This tragedy must never be repeated,” Tafidis stated.

The Tempi train disaster, which claimed 57 lives, remains a painful wound for Greeks both in the homeland and abroad. The Greek-Australian community continues to stand in solidarity with the victims’ families, emphasising that systemic failures must be addressed to prevent future tragedies.

The Melbourne rally echoed similar protests across the world, with Greek communities abroad joining the call for justice. Attendees held banners and signs urging authorities to ensure full transparency in the ongoing investigations.
