Nick Kyrgios is lined up to face Novak Djokovic at the Indian Wells Open if he wins his first round qualifying match.

Kyrgios, using a protected ranking for the tournament, is one of the few players to have had success against Djokovic over the years.

The two have met three times with the Australian winning twice, including a victory in Indian Wells in 2017.

They have also had an up-and-down relationship in recent years.

In 2021, Kyrgios bad-mouthed Djokovic on social media, calling him a “tool” at one point. Djokovic responded by saying he respects Kyrgios the player but “Off the court, I don’t have much respect for him, to be honest.”

In the years that followed, the Serbian actually found an ally in Kyrgios who felt that he was mistreated when it came to his vaccination stance and not being able to play in the Australian Open.

In recent times, Djokovic appeared on Kyrgios’s podcast and ;ast December the two played doubles together at the Brisbane International.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Stefanos Tsitsipas has been given a seeding of eight, and like Djokovic, has a bye for the opening round and awaits to see who his opponent will be.
