The annual commemoration of Greek Independence Day has locked in a date in Sydney with this year’s events set to be held on 23 March.

The event, organised by the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, will take place on Sunday 23 March as the city honours the 204th anniversary of Greece’s most significant day in its modern history.

The festivities will open with a memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in Martin Place, commencing from 1pm.

Following that, various students and community groups will march towards the Sydney Opera House wherein a festive program will be held along with speeches from various officials.

The hosts expressed an open invitation to any and all community groups and individuals to participate in the events that honour Greece’s history, language, and culture alongside the broader Australian community.

They requested that interested associations wishing to attend contact them via email at greeknationaldaysydney@gmail.com by Monday 17 March, confirming their participation and detailing any special requirements.

They also stressed that anyone wishing to lay a wreath also contact them in advance via the same email, noting that participants should bring their own wreath.
