The Mytilenian Brotherhood of Sydney and NSW is all set for a wonderful Glenti at its premises wherein they will host members of the Palesviaki Enosi of Melbourne and Victoria for what promises to be an excellent gathering.
The Mytilenian Glenti will take place on Sunday (12.30pm) at the Mytilenian House in Canterbury, delivering an afternoon of music, dancing and traditional foods that all celebrate their proud cultural heritage of Lesvos.
The Brotherhood’s dance group will be a notable part of the festivities, contributing immensely to the live entertainment.
Peter Psomas, President of the Brotherhood, highlighted his great pleasure in building on the connection with their Victorian counterparts, which was fostered three years ago when they visited Melbourne for the Ouzo Festival.
“Through that event, we developed a connection with the President, Yannis Karanikolas. We suggested then doing an event in Albury as a kind of meet-in-the-middle,” Psomas told Neos Kosmos.
The idea for the event blossomed last month when Psomas visited Melbourne again, with both sides agreeing to time the Glenti for the Labour Day long weekend.
“We will be ready for them with traditional Greek dancing, souvles, sardelles etc. It will be a great afternoon to catch up with our Melbourne counterparts,” he said.
Psomas stressed that his deep connection to the Brotherhood through his father instilled an importance of preserving their rich heritage and traditions, which he is proud they still maintain strongly.
“For us, it is a big achievement to keep the tradition going and for the younger generation to come and carry the baton on,” he said.
“We encourage everyone to reach out to us, come and enjoy a lovely Sunday afternoon at the Mytilenian House. We are looking forward to hosting a big Mytilenian Glenti.”
