Hill stuns Feeney for first Supercars win in Melbourne

Less than 24 hours after claiming his first Supercars podium, Cam Hill has stunned competition heavyweight Broc Feeney in Melbourne for his first race win

Supercars underdog Cam Hill has pulled off a massive upset against Triple Eight young gun Broc Feeney to claim a career-first race win and lead a Matt Stone Racing one-two finish.

Less than 24 hours after claiming a maiden podium finish, Hill got the jump on pole-sitter Feeney at Melbourne’s Albert Park on Friday and never relinquished his lead, winning by a clear half a second.

Hill cleverly blocked Feeney on the way to turn three of the city circuit to open the door for teammate Nick Percat to move into second.

Feeney, after breaking through for his first race win of the season the day before, was made to settle for fourth after teammate Will Brown slipped past in the final laps to finish third.

Carnage ensued before drivers could finish the first circuit of the 19-lap sprint, with Erebus driver Jack Le Brocq suffering heavy damage to the front of his Chevrolet Camaro.

Le Brocq spun into the wall exiting turn five after contact from Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Ryan Wood on the inside, losing the front bar of his car and ushering in the safety car.

Wood was slapped with a pit-lane penalty for a driving infringement.

Le Brocq cut a frustrated figure as he was watched the remainder of the sprint from the garage.

“I’m all for a bit of hard racing but when we’re writing cars off like that, it gets pretty silly,” Le Brocq said.

The safety car came on a second time when David Reynolds (Team 18) was sent into the gravel on the fifth lap after a bump from Tickford’s Thomas Randle.

Reynolds crossed the finish line last in 23rd, while series leader Cam Waters was sixth.

Drivers will return to Albert Park at 9.05am on Saturday for back-to-back qualifying sessions.
