The Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Dimitria Georgantzoglou, hosted a successful reception at the Hellenic Museum in honour of March 25th, with the event fostering a great sense of pride for the homeland.

The event, held on Monday evening (24 March), was presented by Spiro Alatsas and featured numerous speakers, among which was the Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan.

The Premier, along with the other speakers, expressed admiration for the Greek people’s struggle for freedom and praised the significant contribution of the Hellenic community to the cultural and economic development of Australia.

In addition to the Premier, the event was attended by many dignitaries, including:

  • Bishops Kyriakos of Melbourne and Evmenios of Chora
  • Brad Battin, representing the State Leader of the Opposition
  • Kim O’Keeffe, Shadow Assistant Minister for Regional Multicultural Affairs
  • Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Environment, Tourism, Sport & Major Events, and Outdoor Recreation
  • Stavros Venizelos, Ambassador of Greece to Australia, and his wife Larisa Tikaidi
  • Harry Stamoulis, Chairperson of the Hellenic Museum, with all members of the board, and CEO of the Hellenic Museum, Sarah Craig
  • Nick Staikos, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Local Government
  • Lee Tarlamis, Legislative Council Member of the South Eastern Metropolitan Region
  • Tim Kane, State Director of DFAT Victoria Office
  • Representatives from numerous Consulate-Generals and the Consulate Corp
  • Sophia Siahou, Chairperson of the Victorian council for Greek National Day
  • Chief Justice Emilios Kyrou
  • Bill Papastergiadis, President of the Greek Community of Melbourne and also representing the Victorian Multicultural Commission
  • Fanos Theofanous, former Victorian Minister and President of the Cyprus Community of Melbourne
  • Former Victorian MPs John Pandazopoulos, Nick Kotsiras, Phillip Delidakis, and Jenny Mikakos
  • Colonel Kyriakos Kyriakakis
