The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia has issued a warning regarding the reappearance of fraudulent email and Facebook accounts falsely claiming to represent Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
In an official statement, the Archdiocese clarified that these fake accounts unlawfully use the Archbishop’s name, title, and images sourced from the internet
“It is important to inform the faithful and the wider public about the resurgence of fraudulent email accounts, as well as fake Facebook profiles and pages that arbitrarily and illegally use the name, title, or photos of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia,” the announcement stated.

The Archdiocese clarified that Archbishop Makarios only maintains an official Instagram account (@archbishop_makarios) and does not have a Facebook profile.
“Users are urged to ignore any Facebook profiles or pages claiming to be associated with the Archbishop and to refrain from any interaction, particularly sharing personal information,” the statement continued.
Additionally, the Archdiocese advised recipients of suspicious emails appearing to be from the Archbishop to carefully verify the sender’s address and assess the content before taking any action. Those with concerns are encouraged to contact the Archdiocese directly for verification.
Authorities have been notified, and appropriate measures are being taken to address the fraudulent activity.
