George Kambosos Jr is set to get another chance at the world title on June 14 in New York.
According to 9News, its reported that the Greek Australian will take on American IBF super lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins at Madison Square Garden.
It is the same venue where Kambosos shocked the world and downed Teofimo Lopez in 2021 to become the unified lightweight champion.
He has only competed once as a super lightweight, a win over Jake Wyllie last month in Sydney.
Now having signed with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom, Kambosos has the chance to grab another belt against native New Yorker Hitchins.
Hitchins (19-0, 7 KO) won his IBF belt by beating another Australian, Liam Paro, by split decision in December last year in Puerto Rico.
The American will go into the fight as the favourite and represented Haiti at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Kambosos, the IBF’s No.3 contender, is 2-3 since the 2021 victory over Lopez, with his three defeats coming to Devin Haney (twice) and Vasily Lomachenko.
If he is to win, it is certain it would set up an all-Australian clash with Paro, who is ranked fourth by the IBF.
