The Vespers of Love was celebrated on Easter Sunday at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Sydney in a service filled with an atmosphere of renewal and release.
Archbishop Makarios of Australia presided over the Vespers and was joined by Metropolitan Seraphim of Sevasteia, and Bishops Iakovos of Miletoupolis and Christodoulos of Magnesia, Chief Secretary of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese of Australia.
A number of members of the clergy from Sydney participated, led by the Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese and Dean of the Cathedral, Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Christophoros Krikelis.
During the Service, the Gospel passage from the Gospel of John, which recounts the appearance of the Risen Christ to His Disciples, was read in various languages.
At the end of the service, Archbishop Makarios blessed the red eggs and distributed them to the faithful who attended the service, among whom were the Ambassador of Greece to Australia, Stavros Venizelos, and the Consul General in Sydney, Ioannis Mallikourtis, with their spouses, and the Archons of the Great Church of Christ, Andrew Liveris, President of the Order of “Christ the Saviour”, and Theo Penklis, Vice-President of the Archdiocesan Council, also with their spouses.
