With the title wrapped up, attention falls to the other battles within the league of which the most compelling right now is the fight for second place, and it is one PAOK is desperately seeking to stay alive in when they face Panathinaikos.

The Thessaloniki giants host the Greens at “Toumba” Stadium on Monday morning (AEST) in the fourth round of the Greek Super League’s play-offs and it is in many ways a must-win.

PAOK currently sits four points off the second-placed “Trifylli”, thanks to their loss against them in the last matchday which means that another win for Panathinaikos here would mathematically eliminate the Thessaloniki club from contention.

As such, three points stand even more important which will make for a very intriguing clash wherein both teams have much to gain from a victory.

A draw at this stage would suit the Greens much better, though they will be wary of AEK catching up with them in the race for the final Champions League qualifying round spot.

Enosi takes on Olympiacos at “Agia Sophia” Stadium in the other play-offs clash and the stage is set for them to earn revenge after losing to the “red-whites” last round.

The Piraeus giants, who mathematically won the league title by beating AEK last matchday, have little to play for which makes them a great opponent for the Double-headed eagle of the South to challenge now.

AEK must ensure a win to get even with the Greens on points, meaning the game is of vital importance for that reason alone, though they will also be motivated by revenge after allowing Olympiacos to win the title officially by beating them.

Aris is looking to continue its strong performance in the fifth-eighth play-offs by defeating Atromitos away on Sunday morning.

The “yellow-blacks” have won all three of their play-offs games so far and another win would practically guarantee they finish fifth, which would give them an entry into the Conference League qualifiers in the event OFI does not win the Greek Cup final against Olympiacos.

OFI is looking to build up some momentum ahead of that massive game as they look to beat Asteras Tripolis at home.

The Arcadians will not make it easy for them, especially since they stand as the only team that could potentially seize fifth from Aris.

In the relegation play-outs, there is the chance we will see the first club mathematically relegated with Lamia’s survival hopes hanging by a thread.

The clubs played out the fourth matchday midweek with Panserraikos and Panetolikos drawing 1-1, Volos beating Lamia 1-3 away, and Levadiakos winning 0-3 away against Kallithea.

As such, Lamia is now already at risk of officially going down as they need to win essentially every game from here on out and hope Volos also loses practically every remaining match.

The Fthiotida side’s first hurdle will be playing Levadiakos away on Tuesday morning in the fifth round of the relegation play-outs.

The “blue-greens” are arguably the most in-form side of the bottom half clubs, meaning Lamia will have to muster a strong effort to stay alive for one more round.

Kallithea, the other team strongly at risk of relegation, battles Panetolikos away with victory a must to protect their survival chances.

The Athenian club is five points from safety, a much better situation than Lamia (14 points away), though it is a considerable gap they have to close.

Volos will do their best to guarantee Kallithea gets no closer to overtaking them with their target being to down Panserraikos at home.

The Magnesia side has done well in the play-outs thus far with two wins and two draws earned, and it is a strong run of form they hope to extend by defeating their Serres-based opponents.
