A divorce case involving an extramarital affair purportedly ‘revealed’ by an AI response is expected to be heard at court, Greek media has reported.

The divorce application was made known after the husband who was being accused of being unfaithful spoke to an Antenna TV morning show.

It all started from a playful moment, he said, when his wife asked ChatGPT to interpret the photos of the couple’s Greek coffee cup remnants.

“In my coffee, it saw a young woman with the initial ‘E,’ whom I supposedly think about intensely, and that my desire to have a relationship with her would soon become a reality. Similarly, the ‘scientific’ conclusion of her coffee reading was that I am cheating on her with a young woman who intends to destroy our marriage,” he said.

“I considered it unnecessary to explain that these are baseless nonsense and I just laughed,” the husband said.

Based on the chatbot’s response, the wife reportedly told the man to leave their home and asked her lawyer to initiate divorce proceedings.

The couple have been married for 12 years and have two young children, with the father’s lawyer hinting at a potential countersuit for custody.

The husband claims it is not the first time his wife’s decision-making is influenced by unfounded allegations, citing a past family crisis when she had consulted an astrologer.

Speaking to media, the man’s lawyer, Fivos Strougaris, said there is no evidence to support an affair allegation.

“My client is innocent until proven otherwise. The absurdity of artificial intelligence cannot be used as evidence in court.”

“There’s something behind all this. If she wanted to believe he was cheating but couldn’t prove it, suddenly the AI told her exactly what she wanted to hear,” Strougaris said.
