The pressure is all on AEK to overturn their wretched play-offs form and score a crucial win against Panathinaikos to keep their chances of finishing second alive.

Enosi hosts the Greens in a huge derby at “Agia Sophia” Stadium on Monday morning (AEST) in the fifth and penultimate matchday of the Greek Super League’s play-offs, with three points a must to have any chance of seizing second.

AEK must win as even a draw would end their aspirations for the final Champions League qualifying round spot, given Panathinaikos (currently three points in front of them) has the better head-to-head record.

It means that the “Trifylli” would be able to guarantee AEK is eliminated from contention as long as they earn a result.

Panathinaikos will no doubt be looking to extend their rivals’ miserable play-offs campaign that has seen them lose all four games, with the hope of wrapping up second before they have to play the champions and bitter rivals, Olympiacos, next week.

The Piraeus giants take on PAOK at home in the other huge clash that could decide the fate of PAOK’s hopes for second place.

The Thessaloniki giants have all to play for as they remain well in contention for second, thanks to their dominant victory over Panathinaikos last round which brought them within a point of the Greens.

Despite the challenge of playing the “red-whites” at the fortress, they will likely view it as an opportune time to face them given the champions have nothing to play for.

It will be interesting to see how good a fight Olympiacos is able to put up now that they have the league title wrapped up.

In the fifth-eighth play-offs, Aris is looking to wrap up fifth position with an away win over OFI on Sunday morning.

The “yellow-blacks” have performed strongly with three wins and a draw thus far, and they will be keen to continue their fine form with one more victory that would mathematically secure them of fifth.

The Cretans, meanwhile, are in desperate need of a confidence-boosting win, not because they have anything to play for in the play-offs but rather because they are weeks away from an epic Cup final against Olympiacos.

OFI is well aware that winning the Cup would be huge for the club and its fans, and that would also provide them the opportunity to enter the Europa League qualifying rounds for next season.

In the event OFI wins the Cup, the European spot that Aris is playing for would not fall down to them, and so there is still intrigue even if the Thessaloniki club wraps up fifth.

In any case, Asteras Tripolis is hoping to pounce on any dropped points from Aris, though their first challenge is beating Atromitos at home.

The Arcadians are four points behind Aris, meaning victory is essential to have any hope of taking fifth place (with them still needing OFI to do them a massive favour).

The sixth round of the relegation play-outs will take place on Tuesday morning, and the interest is all on Kallithea, Volos and Panserraikos.

Kallithea challenges Panetolikos at home in a must-win game, with the Athenian outfit desperately scrambling to start a strong late run and ascend out of second-last (the other relegation spot).

Should they win, Kallithea would be guaranteed to get closer to their other relegation rivals in Panserraikos and Volos as they play each other.

The two sides are aware of the stakes which make the clash a most interesting battle that could either advance their cause for survival or bring them closer to the drop.

Lamia, who was mathematically guaranteed of relegation last round, hosts Levadiakos in a dead rubber game with the Fthiotida side now seeking some semblance of pride in their final games in the top division.
