South Australian Andriana Petrakis has won two silver medals at the Virtus World Tennis Championships which took place in Kazakhstan.

Eight athletes from Australia were selected to wear the green and gold competing across the three international classifications in the intellectual disability and autism (IDA) pathway – II-1 (intellectual disability), II-2 (Down syndrome) and II-3 (autism).

The young Greek Australian tennis player who is currently ranked number two for woman in the People with an Intellectual Impairment (PWII) Australian Ranking, won two silver medals, one for women’s doubles and one in the women’s team event alongside Kelly Wren. She also came fifth overall in both singles and doubles with Damian Phillips.

Earlier this year Petrakis was awarded The Advertiser Foundation Young Achiever scholarship at the SkyCity Woman of the Year Awards 2025.

In a media release Petrakis was elated with the results and the experience in Kazakhstan.

“My favourite place in Astana was Baiturek monument. The monument was beautiful and magical.

“The food was so delicious, I loved the meat pastries, apple pastry and some other Kazakh foods.

“I had an awesome time in Astana. Astana is an amazing city,” Petrakis stated.

Prior to her trip to Kazakhstan Petrakis was also awarded in the Most Outstanding Athlete with a Disability category, alongside Ethan Cook as joint winners, highlighting their outstanding achievements and inspirational journeys.

Petrakis also won the award in 2021 and 2023.
